MILLNER FOR COUNCIL
Vote Democrat Marlon Millner for Norristown Councilman At-Large on Tuesday November 3
There are several important issues in our community. I want you to know where I stand and how we can work together to make Norristown better.

Here I address a gathering of 100 regional stakeholders at a public forum sponsored by WHYY, the Penn Center for Public Engagement and the Southeastern Pennsylvania First Suburbs Project, where I serve on the board.

Position HIGHLIGHTS:

Use our tax dollars wisely and efficiently

  • Hold the line on expenses, cut where needed

  • Leverage technology for convenience, efficiency, and lower overhead

Attract quality businesses and residents

  • Focus on potential new residents who accept Norristown's value proposition

  • Push for regulatory overhaul and progressive land-use policy

  • Target small businesses and new industry entrepreneurs

  • Support development that is sustainable and reflects new master plan

Plan a good re-use of Montgomery Hospital

  • Re-use can be sparked by good land use policy and planning

  • Be creative and think outside of the box on possible redevelopment

  • Committed to a quality, accessible healthcare option included in any re-use

Focus on public safety, including violent crime and community/police relations

  • Work with the government initiative known as "Weed & Seed"

  • Have council act as real manager of goals and outcomes of this program

  • Seek federal funding and private partners for such programs

  • Focus community-police relations strategy through this existing collaborative

  • Challenge faith communities in Norristown to speak with one voice on violence

  • Work with non-government leaders to do what policies alone cannot do

Apply regional solutions to local challenges

  • Willingness to cross party lines to work on common regional challenges

  • Focus on policies that stabilize older suburbs and not simply subsidize sprawl

  • Back issues like a state equitable school funding formula that help all communities, particularly highly taxed jurisdictions
